In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in its report that India accounted for 27 per cent of the total number of Tuberculosis cases in the world! Tuberculosis, which is caused by a bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a growing epidemic and yet, we don’t hear people talking about this lethal disease.

The question remains: Why not so serious? And an even more important question needs to be asked: What do we do to fight it?

It is really important for you to be in the right frame of mind to fight tuberculosis and therefore, having true friends will help you heal in ways that you cannot even imagine! While Tuberculosis is an infectious disease, true friends will always find ways to connect with you through innovative ways. You see, “I am always here for you”, “Just a call/text away” …  is the mantra of the buddy who genuinely cares for you. 
  1. Knowledge
    In India, illiterate people suffer because of lack of education. However, others, despite being literate, don’t know much about TB. It is extremely surprising and sad that in an age where information is just a click away, we still remain ignorant about TB. So what are you waiting for?   1. Regular Checkups
    If you have been coughing for over two weeks, it’s better to consult a qualified and experienced doctor. Other symptoms like weight loss, night sweats, phlegm, night sweats, etc. must not be ignored either. You must visit your doctor and get the required medical tests done. Don’t ignore any kind of symptoms because it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
  1. Manage Your Environment
    As TB is an airborne infection, it is difficult to fight it. However, simple things like good ventilation, natural light and good hygiene can go a long way in your fight against the disease. Taking care of your health and building a strong immune system becomes extremely important. So, when are you planning to hit the gym?
  1. Hope
    As the dialogue in ‘Shawshank Redemption’ goes, “Hope is a good thing, may be the best of the things. And a good thing never dies.” This four letter word means the world when TB makes a wild card entry in your life!
