Tuberculosis commonly known as TB is a lung disease caused by a bacteria called the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria can also attack other parts of the body such a kidney, spine and brain.
TB is an airborne disease. The bacteria spreads into the air when a person with active TB coughs, sneezes, speaks or sings. It does not spread through touch or by sharing food.
TB infection is curable
A TB patient can become non-contagious if they take proper medication and listen to the doctors’ advice. Treatment is available in hospitals and clinics. If not treated properly, TB can be fatal.
