Is Tuberculosis Genetic?

Contrary to popular belief, Tuberculosis (TB) is NOT genetic i.e. is not passed down a family tree.

TB is caused by a bacteria called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and mainly affects the lungs. It is a communicable disease and the bacteria spreads through tiny droplets released in the air when a person with active TB coughs, sneezes, talks or sings.

The good news is that TB is treatable and in India treatment and care is provided by the government in the public sector and also by private sector healthcare providers.
